Camp Harbor View is working to open camp this summer! While this decision is not final, we are planning diligently in an effort to safely offer in-person summer programs. We’ve assembled this page to provide you with accurate and detailed information on our decisions and plans for the summer of 2021. We’ll continue to update this page as more information becomes available.

When will the 2021 summer camp application open?

The summer camp application will open on Tuesday, April 6th. You will find it on the application & forms page of our website on that date.

When will I know if my child got into camp?

You will be notified the week of  May 3rd by email.

When will a final decision be made on camp opening?

Final decisions will be made by June 1st, but again, at this time we fully intend to hold camp.

Will Camp Harbor View operate at full capacity?

Unfortunately, no. Due to COVID-19, we will be operating at 30% capacity. This means that we will have about 120 young people on the island every day, in addition to 40 staff. This decision was made in consultation with public health experts. Your campers’ health and safety are top priorities.

Given the limited capacity this year, how will Camp Harbor View select campers?

Due to the anticipated high demand, all camper applications will be entered into a lottery. We believe this is the most fair and equitable way to facilitate the admissions process.

When will camp be in session?

Our goal is to offer four 2-week sessions this summer, beginning June 28th. The camp day, inclusive of morning and evening bus pick-ups and drop offs, will look the same (approximately 7:30 AM – 5:00PM). If your child is admitted to camp, you will receive much more information about the daily schedule and logistics. The first step is filling out and submitting the application! Due to our reduced capacity, and in order to serve as many young people as possible, we are moving to this model.

Will I have the opportunity to choose when my child goes to camp?

Yes, on the application, you will have the opportunity to select one of two blocks. There will be a July block and an August block. Within that, Camp Harbor View will place all campers into a single 2-week session. Due to capacity limits and anticipated high demand, each child will only be eligible to attend one 2-week session.

Will preference be provided to my child if they have previously attended Camp Harbor View?

Unfortunately, not this year. Again, due to anticipated high demand every camper will be entered into the lottery system.

What precautions are Camp Harbor View taking to ensure the safety of campers and staff?

We are working closely with an environmental safety and engineering firm. They have worked with dozens of camps and school districts to put in place the proper protocols around COVID-19. You can learn more about their work by clicking here.

How will staff be prepared to safely care for my child this summer?

Staff will go through extensive training prior to the start of camp around COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures. Furthermore, Camp Harbor View will have a COVID-19 safety team on the island, which will include a dedicated team of staff members who are specifically focused on ensuring that COVID-19 protocols and procedures are followed.

What will the camp experience look like this year?

Like many things in our world right now, camp will look a little different. This will mean enforcing similar requirements to schools that are opening, including but not limited to: social distancing, mandatory mask wearing, and regular symptom checks. We are also exploring options around testing for both campers and staff. We are actively working on these plans as guidelines become available from the city and state. Most importantly, we are working to ensure that our programs remain fun, engaging, and take advantage of all that our beautiful campus has to offer campers.

Last summer you offered online programs, will this be the case again?

Yes. We will be offering free, online access to activities. These will be online videos that guide young people through fun, at-home activities. For young people that are not admitted to camp, we will also be offering supply kits. Similar to the in-person camp experience, availability of supply kits will be dependent on the number of camper applications. If this is greater than 400, we will have a lottery. The first 400 campers drawn for at-home supply kits will receive them.

What should I do next?

The first step for interested parents and guardians will be filling out and submitting the camp application. Applications will be open from April 6th through April 26th. The lottery will be drawn in the days following the 26th and we will notify families of their placement the week of May 3rd. From there, we will be sending out consistent (at least bi-weekly) email communication leading up to camp. This will include all of the updates that you will need for both the in-person and at-home camp programs
