Allie Pettaway
2025 CHV Boston Marathon TeamThe 2025 Boston Marathon will be Allie’s first, and she’s running to close the opportunity gap, especially for women and girls in STEM. She brings to the race a deep dedication to equity in Boston and beyond and has already had a global impact early in her career. As a young engineer at Moderna, she played a role in developing the Covid-19 vaccine immediately after graduating college. And as an engineer who identifies as Black and mixed-race, she’s committed to supporting women in STEM, and especially women of color.
A Saco, Maine native, Allie came to Boston for college at Northeastern, graduated in 2020, and moved directly into Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine program (!!). Through the National Society of Black Engineers, at work, and in the community she is constantly seeking ways to create opportunity for young people. She’s been a mentor with DREAM in Roxbury and found CHV when she joined the Moderna team for the STEM fair on the island during summer camp. Allie and team visited on a talent show day and jumped right into the action:
“We had SO much fun when I visited the island with my team at Moderna. It was empowering and energizing to see Blackness celebrated in that way. It’s a standout memory.”
