Laura is no ordinary marathoner—she’s a trailblazer with a cause. A proud Beverly native now living in Vermont, Laura is a mother of two, a dedicated instructional designer, and a seasoned runner with six Boston Marathons under her belt. This year, she’s tackling her seventh—but her first as a charity runner for Camp Harbor View.

Inspired by CHV’s work to empower youth and families, Laura is running with purpose. “There’s something really special about being a charity runner for this race,” she says. “It’s not just about the race; it’s about the community, the pride, and the joy of accomplishing something big.”

Allie Pettaway

Allie Pettaway

2025 CHV Boston Marathon Team

The 2025 Boston Marathon will be Allie’s first, and she’s running to close the opportunity gap, especially for women and girls in STEM. She brings to the race a deep dedication to equity in Boston and beyond and has already had a global impact early in her career. As a young engineer at Moderna, she played a role in developing the Covid-19 vaccine immediately after graduating college. And as an engineer who identifies as Black and mixed-race, she’s committed to supporting women in STEM, and especially women of color.

A Saco, Maine native, Allie came to Boston for college at Northeastern, graduated in 2020, and moved directly into Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine program (!!). Through the National Society of Black Engineers, at work, and in the community she is constantly seeking ways to create opportunity for young people. She’s been a mentor with DREAM in Roxbury and found CHV when she joined the Moderna team for the STEM fair on the island during summer camp. Allie and team visited on a talent show day and jumped right into the action:

“We had SO much fun when I visited the island with my team at Moderna. It was empowering and energizing to see Blackness celebrated in that way. It’s a standout memory.”

Camp Harbor View’s very own Kara Bassett is turning her passion for running into purpose. As a former collegiate soccer player who discovered distance running just last year, Kara’s journey to the Boston Marathon blends her love for athletics and her deep commitment to Camp Harbor View, where she helps empower Boston’s youth every day.

Originally from New London, Connecticut, Kara found her Boston home at Camp Harbor View, first as an intern and now as a full-time staff member. Join us in supporting Kara as she tackles the Boston Marathon running not just for herself, but for every young person at Camp Harbor View.

“Running a marathon is about taking it mile by mile, just like the work we do at camp,” says Kara. “It’s about believing in yourself and having a community behind you. When I’m out training in the cold Boston mornings, knowing I’m running for Camp Harbor View makes every step meaningful.”

Lauren Perkowski

Lauren Perkowski

2025 CHV Boston Marathon Team

Lauren Perkowski is taking on her first marathon, and she’s doing it for a cause close to her heart. As a lifelong runner, Lauren’s passion for the sport started in middle school, inspired by her father, a triathlete and ultramarathoner. From there, she ran cross country and track throughout high school, college, and graduate school. She has battled with some injuries that tested her resilience but never dimmed her love for running.

Lauren’s connection to Camp Harbor View began while working as an assistant to our visionary founder, Jack Connors. After seeing the camp’s incredible impact on Boston youth, she was inspired by CHV’s mission to provide free, life-changing programming for families. Now, Lauren is bringing her passions for running and community together by representing Camp Harbor View on marathon day.

As she trains, Lauren is fueled by more than just miles. Every step is for the kids, for their futures, and for the community she believes in. We’re cheering you on, Lauren!

“I’m running the Boston Marathon with purpose and passion for an organization that is very close to my heart.”
